The Allan lab were pleased to host Uzal Umar, a Lecturer and Research Associate at University of Jos Plateau State in Nigeria, for 1-month through a BactiVac Catalyst Training Award. Uzal spent his time in the lab investigating pneumococcal biofilm formation, developing his skills in a variety of biofilm methodologies including confocal microscopy, whilst also spending time at University of Birmingham with Dr David Cleary exploring bioinformatic approaches. This work has lead to a new collaboration that looks to characterise pneumococcal strains from Nigerian patients and identify new approaches to treating these infections.
